Manchester City has sold Brazilian goalkeeper Ederson to Fenerbahce and has permitted Swiss defender Manuel Akanji to move to Inter Milan on a season-long loan.
Ederson departs City after an eight-year tenure, during which he contributed to the team winning six Premier League titles and the Champions League.
Fenerbahce has agreed to pay £12.1 million for the 32-year-old, who made 372 appearances for City following his £35 million transfer from Benfica in 2017.
City is looking to the future with new goalkeeping options.
They signed James Trafford from Burnley this summer and have reached a £26 million agreement to bring in Italy’s Gianluigi Donnarumma from Paris St-Germain on a five-year contract.
Ederson also won the FA Cup twice with City and played a vital role in manager Pep Guardiola’s team achieving the treble in the 2022-23 season.
Also, Swiss international Akanji was instrumental during that successful season after joining City from Borussia Dortmund in 2022.
He started in the 2023 Champions League final against his new team, Inter.
Ederson will be remembered as one of City’s finest goalkeepers.
He stated, “I leave Manchester City with immense pride in what we have accomplished together, and I am honored to have worn the shirt so many times.

“Under Pep, we have won, dominated the Premier League, and conquered Europe. It has been incredible.”
Ederson continued, “I arrived in Manchester eight years ago filled with hope, but I could never have anticipated such a wonderful time together.
“Playing for City has been the most special period of my life, and I will always be a supporter of this remarkable club.
“I’m leaving with my wife and children, but I’m parting from a large family here, Cityzens. Once a Blue, always a Blue.”
In addition to achieving 122 clean sheets in 276 Premier League matches, Ederson also recorded seven assists in the league.
Only former Liverpool goalkeeper Bruce Grobbelaar has won six English top-flight titles, matching Ederson’s record.
“The fact that no goalkeeper has ever won more Premier League titles speaks volumes about his quality and consistency in a City shirt,” remarked City’s director of football, Hugo Viana.
“He has been a pivotal figure in all our recent successes, and his skills and courage have been essential in enabling City to play the beautiful football we have witnessed.
He has truly secured his legacy in Manchester City’s history.”
