A suspected drone strike near Dubai International Airport has heightened security concerns across the Middle East, coming amid fresh military exchanges and rising diplomatic tension involving Iran, Israel and several Gulf states.

Verified footage reviewed by BBC News showed smoke billowing near the airport shortly after an explosion believed to have been caused by a drone. Authorities at the airport temporarily suspended flight operations as emergency teams responded to the incident.

Airport officials later confirmed that some departures and arrivals had resumed after the brief shutdown. Investigations are still underway to determine the exact cause of the explosion and whether any infrastructure around the airport sustained damage.

The incident occurred as Iran’s President, Masoud Pezeshkian, issued a public apology to neighbouring Gulf nations following a series of regional attacks and retaliatory strikes that have unsettled security across the region.

In his remarks, Pezeshkian said Iran had no intention of attacking Gulf countries unless it was first targeted. The statement appeared aimed at calming fears among neighbouring states that the widening conflict could spill further across the Persian Gulf.

Security analysts, however, say the apology may have limited immediate effect as military operations continue across several fronts. Tensions have escalated in recent weeks due to ongoing confrontations between Israel and groups aligned with Iran across the Middle East.

Former United States President Donald Trump reacted to Pezeshkian’s statement by suggesting that Iran’s position could be interpreted as a sign of weakness, warning that Tehran might face strong retaliation.

Meanwhile, Israeli authorities announced that the country had launched a new wave of strikes against strategic infrastructure inside Iran. The operations form part of a broader campaign targeting facilities believed to support military operations.

The conflict has also extended into Beirut in Lebanon, where Israeli forces carried out additional strikes in the southern suburbs of the capital. The areas targeted are widely believed to host positions associated with Hezbollah.

Residents in several neighbourhoods reportedly began evacuating ahead of the attacks as fears of further bombardment spread. Local authorities and humanitarian agencies have warned that the security situation remains volatile.

The unfolding developments underscore a rapidly intensifying regional crisis, with diplomatic efforts struggling to contain the expanding conflict. Governments across the Gulf and the wider Middle East remain on high alert as military activity and security threats continue to evolve.
