The Minister of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Reduction, Bernard Doro, has called for stronger collaboration and innovative financing mechanisms to tackle multidimensional poverty across Nigeria, particularly in the North-West region.

Doro made the call during the high-level North-West policy dialogue on reducing multidimensional poverty through scaled social protection and innovative financing held in Kano on Thursday.
The event brought together senior government officials, development partners, governors from North-West states and other stakeholders to discuss sustainable strategies for addressing poverty and vulnerability in the region.
Among the dignitaries present was the Deputy President of the Senate, Barau Jibrin, who represented Vice President Kashim Shettima at the dialogue.
Speaking at the gathering, the minister stressed the importance of building coordinated and inclusive social protection systems capable of delivering lasting support to vulnerable populations.
He emphasized the need for evidence-based policymaking, sustainable funding models and stronger partnerships among federal, state and local governments, as well as development agencies.
Doro noted that effective social protection programmes remain critical to the federal government’s efforts to reduce poverty and improve living conditions for millions of Nigerians.
He also highlighted the strategic role of the multidimensional poverty index in identifying and addressing the different dimensions of poverty beyond income levels.

According to him, tools such as unified social registries can help improve targeting and ensure that interventions reach those most in need.
The minister further underscored the significance of the one humanitarian–one poverty response system, describing it as a key framework for coordinating humanitarian assistance and poverty reduction initiatives across the country.
According to Doro, the system is designed to enhance efficiency, reduce duplication of efforts and create a more integrated approach to supporting vulnerable communities.
