A chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Chief Eze Chukwuemeka Eze, has cautioned President Bola Tinubu against treating with levity the designation of Nigeria as a “country of particular concern” by President Donald Trump of the United States of America.
In a statement on Wednesday, the APC chieftain said rather than whip up sentiments over Trump’s stand on terrorism and genocide in Nigeria, Tinubu should be decisive and bold in tackling terrorism, banditry, and the masterminds of the rampant killings going on in the country under his watch.
Eze noted that in the wake of Trump’s threat to Nigeria, part of the problem facing the Tinubu administration is the role of his media handlers, which he said has become counter-productive in all ramifications.
He insisted that Tinubu should tread with utmost caution and avoid joining issues with Trump, hinting that for Trump to open up means the White House has credible, reliable, and technological intelligence on what is going on in Nigeria.
Eze further warned Tinubu to be wary of what the likes of Fani Kayode and others are reeling out in public and in the media space in defence of the federal government, saying they are “eye-service busy bodies,” who know nothing about the US stance on terrorism globally.
According to Eze, Tinubu should not mistake Trump’s statement as a gutter statement but one that should be treated with every sense of seriousness it deserves.
“For God’s sake, how could a rational being try to politicize harmless advice or see Trump’s statement as divisive, reckless, or anti-Islam,” Eze queried.

“So, for Trump to advise Tinubu to take action now or America will come in, to me, is a candid talk we should embrace with open arms and do the needful.
“Therefore, rather than unleash his attack dogs, fifth columnists, paper tigers, and propagandists on Trump, I urge the Tinubu administration to look inwards with a view to adhering to Trump’s statement,” Eze cautioned.
The APC chieftain recalled that in January 2014, Tinubu had criticised former President Goodluck Jonathan over the killing of Christian worshippers in the North-East, saying it was his duty to protect Nigerians.
Eze recollected that Tinubu had said that Jonathan was weak and incompetent, not being able to protect Christian worshippers who were killed in Borno and Adamawa States.
He said it is a pity that Nigeria had to wait until Trump waded in for our so-called government to see the need to find a way to address the mindless killings.
He urged President Tinubu to rise up to the moment by rallying all Nigerians behind him and providing leadership that is transparent, non-partisan, and pan-Nigerian.
“Let all of us defect into the Nigerian project and not into APC that has become the number one enemy of Nigeria,” Eze stated.
“We lack what it takes to confront a superpower like America. Up till now, Boko Haram fighters have not been decimated, and we are trying to join issues with America because it offered to help deal decisively with the issue of terrorism in Nigeria.”
