Bayelsa State Governor, Senator Douye Diri, has officially welcomed 1,236 corps members deployed to the state under the 2026 Batch A, Stream 1 of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC), cautions them against engaging in behaviours and lifestyles that could jeopardise their future.

The corps members comprise 681 females and 555 males.

Governor Diri, who was represented at the event by the Commissioner for Youth Development, Hon. Alfred Kemepado Nimizigha, urged the corps members to conduct themselves with dignity, discipline, and a strong sense of responsibility throughout their service year.

He cautioned them against actions with negative consequences, stressing that youthful energy must be guided by wisdom and good character to avoid avoidable mistakes.

The governor also encouraged the corps members to embrace continuous learning and skills development, particularly in the rapidly evolving technological environment, while reassuring them of the state government’s commitment to their welfare. He wished them a productive and impactful service year in Bayelsa State.

Speaking further, Hon. Nimizigha described the orientation camp as a critical foundation for personal growth, discipline, and national service, advising the corps members to take the exercise seriously as a stepping stone toward responsible citizenship.

Earlier, the Bayelsa State Coordinator of the NYSC, Mr. Samuel Amaramiro Pepple, charged the corps members to participate actively in all camp activities and to remain law-abiding throughout their service year.

He outlined the four statutory stages of the NYSC programme—orientation, primary assignment, community development service, and winding-up/passing-out—while highlighting the Skills Acquisition and Entrepreneurship Development (SAED) scheme as a vital component aimed at empowering corps members economically.

The ceremony climaxed with the administration of the oath of allegiance on the corps members by the State Chief Judge, represented by Hon. Justice I. Eradiri.
