The Bayelsa State Director of New Media of the pro-Wike group, the NEW Associates, Miss Reigneth Awudumu has been granted bail days after her arrest by suspected loyalists of Governor Douye Diri.

Reigneth’s arrest last week was not unconnected to her alleged participation in a recent rally organized by the pro-Wike group in the state.

A statement by Mr. Kelvin Loveday-Egbo, the Media Assistant to the state’s Convener of the New Associates and caretaker committee Chairman of the state Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), George Turnah, stated that the group feels relieved and pleased that Reigneth has regained her freedom following her recent arrest and legal battles.

The group commended Reigneth for her unwavering courage and determination in the face of oppression.

“Reigneth Awudumu was unjustly arrested and charged before a Yenagoa Magistrate Court due to a petition allegedly orchestrated by one John Sambo, a domestic aide to Governor Douye Diri.

“In a time when oppressive tactics and intimidation have become the hallmarks of the Diri-led prosperity administration, Reigneth has stood tall, demonstrating remarkable strength and resilience.

“Her ability to withstand the pressures from a government that has shown anti-democratic tendencies is commendable and inspires us all,” the group said.

It commended Chief Magistrate Obiri Baitimizimo for her courage and boldness in ensuring justice, even in the face of obvious intimidation.

“The Bayelsa State judiciary has once again demonstrated its independence and integrity by not yielding to the grand plan of the Diri administration to keep Reigneth incarcerated as punishment for exercising her rights to free speech and expression.

“The courageous decision made by the magistrate to grant bail in the most liberal terms underscores the importance of a functional judiciary in safeguarding democracy, which is an exemplary high for the state judiciary.

“As we celebrate Reigneth’s freedom, let us remain steadfast in our commitment to justice, equality, and democracy for all Bayelsans.

“Together, we will overcome the challenges posed by this current administration and build a state that reflects the hopes and aspirations of its people,” the statement added.

The group called on Gov. Diri to focus on the serious issues of governance, particularly the insecurity that is ravaging Bayelsa State, rather than dissipating energy on targeting perceived enemies and wasting public funds on political battles.
