A group, Concerned People of Rivers State has defended the demolition of the Diobu waterfront in Port – Harcourt by the state government.

The group expressed delight in the administration of governor Nyesom Wike for completing the demolition agenda started by the Rotimi Amaechi’s administration, knowing fully that government is continuum.

It, therefore cautioned former Director General of NIMASA, Dakuku Peterside not to play politics with governance by condemning the action of Governor Nyesom Wike.

Peter Robinson, National Coordinator Concerned People of Rivers State in a statement Tuesday explained that the action of the Wike’s government was a continuation of the demolition process of the same waterfront by the administration of Rotimi Amaechi, former governor of the state.

The group argued that for the Rivers State government to have taken the action of demolishing houses on the waterfronts in Port Harcourt means the state government would have exhausted all peaceful means to convince the residents of the affected areas to relocate.

“Like every responsible government, the Gov. Wike administration wouldn’t sit back and allow a few people who reside in the waterfronts to make Port Harcourt, the seat of government unhabitable, insecure, and invariably destroy the environment.

“It’s a known fact, that the waterfront area of Diobu has been a hotbed for all kinds of criminals that former Governor Chibuike Amaechi in his first tenure carried out a full scale cleansing of the waterfronts, to put an end to the many criminal activities of a few misguided residents of the waterfronts, who terrorize innocent citizens of the state capital.

“Dakuku’s godfather, Amaechi began the demolition of the waterfronts with Dakuku as a member of the cabinet. He not backed the decision but astutely defended the action. So why is he reprobating and approbating.

The group, therefore, commended governor Wike for being decisive in tackling the insecurity in the state, and advised Dakuku not to draw back the progress been made by Wike in making lives and properties in Rivers State safe.

“We, the Concerned People of Rivers State, say no to his unholy ambition and his unbridled quest for power.

“We not only reject this , but we declare our support for every action taken or will be taking by our astute Governor, Nyeson Wike to protect the people, economy and environment of Rivers State”.
