The Delta State government has directed Heritage Energy Operational Services Limited (HESOL), operators of Oil Mining Lease (OML) 30, to implement the rent increment demanded by host landlords with effect from January 2025.

The directive was issued by the Commissioner for Oil and Gas, Chief Peter Uviejitobor, during a mediation meeting with representatives of the oil firm and the landlords in Asaba.

Uviejitobor, who expressed delight that the dispute had been amicably resolved, also asked the company to hasten the verification process on expired leases for quick resolution and follow-up payments.

“The Ministry of Oil and Gas is committed to resolving related disputes among all interests in the oil and gas sector in the state to enhance peace, security and prosperity within host communities,” he said.

He further stressed that Delta State was determined to remain Nigeria’s leading oil-producing state.

“It is the desire of the State to maintain its leading position as the highest oil producing state in Nigeria. Delta State is today the most peaceful and safest state in the country to doing business and Governor Sheriff Oborevwori is committed to achieving more in that regard,” the commissioner noted.

“I therefore urge all stakeholders in the oil and gas industry to continue to support the state government in enhancing peace and security in the sector in line with the Renewed Hope for MORE agenda of Governor Sheriff Oborevwori,” he added.

Representatives of both HESOL and the OML 30 landlords, in their remarks, expressed confidence in the state government’s mediation efforts and pledged to work together to sustain peace in the locality.
