Delta State Governor, Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori, has charged political appointees and civil servants, particularly newly sworn-in members of the Civil Service Commission and Permanent Secretaries, to maintain the highest standards of integrity, professionalism, and merit in the execution of their duties.

The charge was delivered during the swearing-in ceremony of Comrade Olumami Oyibo, Dr. Lawrence Akpoufuoma Pemu, and Prince Mike Oputa as reappointed members of the Delta State Civil Service Commission, alongside Mr. Victor Okubor and Engr. Juliet Aboloje Chukwulozie as Permanent Secretaries in the state civil service.

Governor Oborevwori congratulated the appointees, noting that their selection reflects the administration’s confidence in their integrity, experience, and proven track record of service. He emphasized that the reappointment of the three Civil Service Commission members followed the successful completion of their previous tenure and subsequent confirmation by the Delta State House of Assembly, highlighting their commendable performance and the trust reposed in them.

The governor stressed that the appointment of Permanent Secretaries was strictly merit-based, a principle central to ongoing public service reforms in the state. He described the move as a strategic effort to strengthen leadership capacity within the civil service and enhance overall performance, promising that more appointments of Permanent Secretaries would follow in due course.

Governor Oborevwori highlighted the civil service as the backbone of government, through which policies are implemented and development delivered to the people. He charged the Civil Service Commission to ensure that appointments and promotions are guided by merit, while upholding professionalism, fairness, and equity in the treatment of all civil servants.

Addressing the new Permanent Secretaries, the governor called on them to view their appointments as a call to higher service and an opportunity to contribute meaningfully to the state’s growth. “You must be effective team players, guided by honesty, dedication to duty, and exemplary leadership. Lead by example with impartiality, diligence, and commitment, setting standards for others to follow,” he said.

Oborevwori reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to the welfare and productivity of civil servants, citing ongoing initiatives such as the construction of residential quarters for Permanent Secretaries, timely payment of salaries, clearance of pension obligations, implementation of promotions, expanded training and capacity-building programmes, and improvements in the work environment to boost morale and efficiency.

Responding on behalf of the appointees, Comrade Olumami Oyibo thanked Governor Oborevwori for the appointments and pledged to leverage their experience to advance good governance and support the development of Delta State.
