The Commissioner of Police in Delta State, Yemi Oyeniyi, has called for stronger collaboration between the Nigeria Police Force and the judiciary, warning that criminals would benefit whenever both institutions are divided over operational or legal technicalities.
Oyeniyi made the remarks on Tuesday during a courtesy visit to the Chief Judge of Delta State, Theresa Obiajulu Ogochukwu Diai, as part of efforts to deepen cooperation in the administration of justice and maintenance of law and order in the state.

According to a statement issued by the Police Public Relations Officer of the Delta State Command, SP Bright Edafe, the police commissioner stressed that the police and judiciary occupy complementary positions within the criminal justice system and must continue to work together in tackling crime and ensuring public safety.
Oyeniyi acknowledged that the police may occasionally experience operational shortcomings but maintained that such issues should not create unnecessary friction between the police and the courts.
He said disagreements between both institutions could undermine efforts to combat criminality, noting that criminals often exploit divisions and procedural disputes within the justice system.
The police commissioner appealed for continued understanding, cooperation and mutual institutional support, adding that the Delta State Police Command remained committed to reducing crime and sustaining peace across the state.

Responding, Justice Diai appreciated the commissioner for the visit and expressed optimism that his leadership style and engagement with the judiciary would further strengthen relations between both institutions.
She also stated that improved collaboration between the judiciary and the police would enhance the administration of justice in the state.
The meeting also featured discussions on security challenges, prosecution procedures, judicial processes and broader institutional cooperation aimed at improving safety across Delta State.
