A Magistrate’s Court sitting in Osubi, Okpe Local Government Area of Delta State, has sentenced four men, Otekevwe Festus, Charles Chinedu, Matthew Onisukume, and Marcus Chinugo, to four years imprisonment each for conspiracy and extortion.
The convicts were prosecuted by the Delta State Internal Revenue Service (DSIRS) for engaging in unauthorized revenue collection at Koko Junction, along the Sapele–Benin Expressway.
Delivering judgment, the court held that the offenders would serve their four-year prison terms with hard labour at the Sapele Correctional Centre or pay an alternative fine of ₦2 million each.
Reacting to the verdict, the Chairman of the DSIRS, Solomon Ighrakpata, lauded the court for upholding justice and reinforcing the state’s zero-tolerance stance on illegal revenue activities.

“We commend the court’s decision, which sends a clear message that extortion and tax evasion will not be tolerated in Delta State.
“This ruling reflects our commitment to safeguarding government revenue and promoting lawful tax compliance,” Ighrakpata said.
He called on residents to report unauthorized revenue collectors and other illegal activities to the agency, emphasizing that such cooperation would help strengthen the state’s fiscal system.
“Let this judgment serve as a strong warning to anyone attempting to undermine our revenue drive; we will ensure they face the full consequences of the law,” he added.
