The Vice Chancellor of Delta State University (DELSU), Professor Samuel Asagba, has issued a stern directive for all students to stay indoors on Thursday, June 5, 2025, following a wave of violence that has shaken the university town.

In an official statement signed by the Vice Chancellor, Prof. Asagba said the decision was made to safeguard the lives of students and staff in the wake of escalating tension and security threats in the area.

“I wish to inform you all that due to the security situation in Abraka town, I have directed all our students to remain indoors tomorrow, Thursday, June 5, 2025, until Management is sure of the safety of both staff and students,” he stated.

The Vice Chancellor also announced that all lectures and academic activities scheduled for Thursday have been suspended, urging the university community to remain calm and vigilant. “Let us all hope for a return to normality after the public holidays,” he concluded.

The directive follows a chilling development on Wednesday afternoon when two indigenes of Abraka were reportedly killed by suspected kidnappers. The attack is believed to be a retaliatory strike after security forces gunned down four kidnappers during a high-stakes operation earlier in the day. The tragic incident has sent shockwaves across the community, heightening fears of further violence.

As panic spreads across the university town, students and residents are taking precautions, with many calling for increased security presence around the campus and its environs. The incident has once again spotlighted the growing insecurity in parts of Delta State and the urgent need for more proactive measures to protect lives and restore peace.

This developing story is drawing attention statewide, as concerns mount over the safety of university communities in Nigeria.
