The Minister of Defence, Christopher Musa, has summoned the service chiefs to an emergency meeting over the renewed attacks on military bases in the North-East.
The meeting, which is holding at the Ministry of Defence headquarters in Abuja, is aimed at reviewing the military’s operational strategies following a spate of deadly assaults by terrorists.
Those in attendance include the Chief of Defence Staff, Olufemi Oluyede; the Chief of Army Staff, Waidi Shaibu; the Chief of Air Staff, Sunday Aneke, and the Chief of Naval Staff, Idi Abass.
Also present at the meeting are representatives of the National Intelligence Agency and other top security officials.

The development follows a series of attacks on military bases in Borno State in which at least three commanding officers of the rank of lieutenant-colonel were reportedly killed by insurgents.
Several soldiers were also said to have lost their lives in the attacks, while hundreds of civilians were abducted and remain in captivity.
Speaking briefly before the meeting went into a closed-door session, Musa acknowledged the casualties recorded in the recent confrontations but maintained that the terrorists had suffered heavier losses.
“We know we have recorded some casualties but it is more on the side of terrorists,” the minister said.
He added that the meeting would review current strategies and explore stronger measures to confront the insurgents.
