Dangote refutes NNPC's N898 petrol price claim, calls it "Misleading"

The Dangote Refinery has strongly refuted claims by NNPC Limited that petrol was lifted from the refinery at N898 per liter. The rebuttal came via a statement from Anthony Chiejina, the Group Chief Branding and Communications Officer of the Dangote Group, who labeled the allegations as “misleading and mischievous.”

This statement followed remarks made by Mr. Olufemi Soneye, NNPC’s Chief Corporate Communications Officer, who claimed that NNPC purchased petrol from the refinery at N898 per liter, despite reports suggesting the price was N766 per liter.

Addressing the issue, Dangote Refinery clarified: “We have noted the statement attributed to NNPCL spokesperson, Mr. Olufemi Soneye, alleging that we sell our PMS at N898 per liter to NNPCL. This claim is both misleading and mischievous, designed to undermine the historic milestone we achieved today, September 15, 2024, in addressing the energy insufficiency and insecurity that has plagued the Nigerian economy for the past five decades.”

The refinery urged Nigerians to dismiss these claims and wait for an official price announcement from the Technical Sub-Committee on Naira-based crude sales, which was set up by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu. The committee is scheduled to commence on October 1, 2024, and will determine the official pricing.

In addition, Dangote emphasized that the current crude stock was procured in dollars, and the products were sold to NNPCL in dollars, leading to significant savings compared to current import prices. The refinery reassured Nigerians of a steady supply of quality petroleum products and vowed to end the nation’s long-standing fuel scarcity.
