The Dangote Refinery has announced the commencement of its long-awaited free fuel distribution scheme, set to roll out on Monday. The groundbreaking initiative will begin in Lagos and the South West, with Abuja, Kwara, Delta, Rivers, and Edo States also included in the first phase.
Alongside the free fuel giveaway, the refinery has also slashed petrol prices to N841 per litre in Lagos and the South West, while motorists in Abuja, Kwara, Delta, Rivers, and Edo States will now pay N851 per litre.

Confirming the development, Dangote Group spokesperson Anthony Chiejina said, “We are starting the free fuel distribution scheme on Monday. We will begin with Lagos, the South West, Abuja, Kwara, Delta, Rivers, and Edo States. There will be a drop in price effective on Monday when the free distribution starts.”
The scheme, originally billed to launch in August, was delayed due to logistics challenges in China. But with over 1,000 trucks now delivered to Nigeria, the refinery is finally ready to push ahead, promising that additional states will soon be included as more trucks arrive.
As part of its wider energy transformation strategy, the Dangote Group also revealed a major rollout of CNG-powered trucks to cut transportation costs and strengthen its logistics backbone. Despite a recent spike in CNG prices, the company reaffirmed its commitment to deploy 10,000 CNG trucks in 2025, signaling a massive shift toward cleaner and more cost-efficient fuel alternatives.
The announcement has sparked excitement and debate nationwide, with many Nigerians hailing it as a turning point in the battle against high fuel costs. Analysts say the move could force market rivals and regulators to rethink Nigeria’s fuel pricing structure, making Dangote’s intervention a potential game-changer for the economy.
