The Comptroller-General of Customs, Bashir Adeniyi, continues his commitment to positively influencing the lives of young Nigerians through sports by urging both male and female volleyball players of the Nigerian Customs to prioritize discipline and assured them of his unwavering support in their pursuits.

Bashir delivered this message during the ongoing 2025 Nigeria Volleyball Premier League Phase 1 match day 9 at the Moshood Abiola National Stadium in Abuja on Sunday.

Adeniyi was welcomed to the event venue by Prince Babatunde Omisore, the 1st Vice President of the Nigeria Volleyball Federation, and Sports Director Customs, Samuel Onikeku.

He emphasized that meaningful development cannot occur without discipline amongst the youth, stating, “it is better to lose as a disciplined team than to win as an unruly ones.”

Bashir praised the impressive efforts of both the men and women teams, encouraging them to maintain their momentum.

His presence at the matches on Sunday motivated the players to strive for the championship trophy.

Sports Director Customs, Samuel Onikeku expressed that the comptroller-general’s visit on the ninth day of the championship was both overwhelming and encouraging for the customs teams.

He expressed satisfaction with the performance of both teams, noting that they achieved a success rate of 90 percent.

The women’s team won all seven of their matches, while the men’s team secured seven victories out of 10.

The COAS team narrowly defeated the Nigerian Customs in a narrow gap points match on Sunday.

Head coach of the Nigeria Customs volleyball team, Johna Adamu, expressed optimism despite the loss and assured fans that the team would improve in their upcoming matches.

He thanked the comptroller-general for attending the matches, stating, “we truly appreciate the CGC’s presence; it has boosted our morale.

“We have recently formed a new team of both men and women, and they are doing their best.

“With the encouragement we are receiving from the CGC, nothing will prevent us from achieving victory despite today’s defeat.

“We will put in our best to make him proud” he added.
