Cubana Chief Priest has sparked fresh debate over the role of community leaders in grassroots politics, after lamenting what he described as misplaced trust in some elders following his defeat in the All Progressives Congress (APC) primary election for the Orsu/Orlu/Oru East Federal Constituency seat in Imo State.

Key Highlights:

  • Pascal Okechukwu lost the APC primary for the Orsu/Orlu/Oru East Federal Constituency seat in Imo State after polling just 14 votes.
  • He blamed some community leaders, saying they failed to support him despite his past contributions and goodwill to them.
  • Cubana Chief Priest expressed disappointment in a viral video but said he had no regrets about contesting the election.
  • Seyi Tinubu publicly encouraged him, urging him not to give up after the defeat.
  • The outcome has sparked debate online about celebrity participation in politics and the influence of grassroots political structures in Nigeria.

The celebrity businessman, whose real name is Pascal Okechukwu, contested for the APC ticket ahead of the 2027 general elections but suffered a shocking defeat after polling only 14 votes during the party primary.

Reacting after the election, Cubana Chief Priest expressed disappointment over the outcome, suggesting that some influential figures within his community failed to support him, despite the help and goodwill he claimed to have extended to them over the years.

In a viral video circulating online, the nightlife promoter said he had no regrets contesting for the seat but regretted placing too much trust in certain elders in his community.

The development has since fueled speculation and criticism online, with many social media users questioning whether local political leaders abandoned the celebrity entrepreneur during the crucial primary contest.

Amid the reactions, Seyi Tinubu publicly encouraged Cubana Chief Priest not to lose hope.

In an Instagram post later reposted by the socialite, Seyi Tinubu wrote:“Bro, sometimes by losing a battle, you find a new way to win the war. Keep your head up @cubana_chiefpriest. We know what you are capable of achieving.”

The message quickly gained traction online, with supporters praising Seyi Tinubu for standing by Cubana Chief Priest during what many described as a difficult political setback.

The APC primary result has continued to generate widespread reactions across social media, with Nigerians debating the influence of celebrities in politics and the power of entrenched grassroots structures in determining electoral outcomes.

Political analysts say the outcome once again highlights the uphill battle many entertainers and public figures face when attempting to break into mainstream politics, particularly within tightly controlled party systems where local alliances and community leadership often play decisive roles.
