Cross River State has announced the release of N399. 7 million for the registration of 14, 804 candidates for the 2025 West African Examination Council WAEC examinations.
Commissioner for Education in the state, Dr. Stephen Odey announced this during a meeting with leaders of the Nigeria Union of Teachers (NUT) and the All Nigeria Conference of Principals of Secondary Schools (ANCOPSS) in Calabar.
Odey announced that the benefitting candidates must be of the state origin, and that registration is at the cost of N27, 000 per candidate.
Also announced by the commissioner is the introduction of online registration for the JSS3 Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE).
This according to Odey, is to prevent irregularities such as inadequate supply of question papers experienced last year.
The state government, the commissioner also disclosed, is to adequately address the issue of re- accreditation of WAEC centers after consultation with critical stakeholders.

Other issues raised by the commissioner at the meeting, include the forthcoming school census for both private and public schools.
He said that the census is for developments and mandated both the NUT and ANCOPSS representatives to inform their members.
Odey also charged them to report to the establishment of any illegal school in their areas.
Responding, both the NUT and ANCOPSS chairmen in the state, Comrades Gregory Olayi and Nsa Etim, thanked the state government for the gesture and requested for the equipping of all science laboratories across public schools in the state.
