The Cross River State House of Assembly has suspended the Chairman of Bekwarra Local Government Area, Theresa Ushie, for three months over alleged misuse of power and handling public funds inappropriately.

The suspension of the local government boss was revealed in a statement by the Chief Press Secretary to the speaker of the state House of Assembly, Matthew Okache.

The suspension follows local government laws, which allow such actions to be taken.

According to the statement, the assembly voted to have her step down for 90 days, while an independent investigation takes place to look into the allegations against her without any interference.

His job during this time is to keep the council running smoothly.
