A corps member, Brown-Ofoeme Prosper, has renovated four dilapidated classroom blocks at Community Primary School, Swali, in Yenagoa Local Government Area.

The project, executed as part of his community development service, was driven by a heartbreaking encounter when he visited the school.

During a visit to the school, Prosper witnessed pupils learning in flooded, roofless classrooms, as they were drenched by rain and struggling to protect their books.

The scene, marked by exposed ceilings, broken windows, and missing doors, left a lasting impact on him.

Initially assigned to the state police command, Prosper had planned an anti-cultism campaign for his community development service project, but the poor condition of the school changed his mind.

He immediately swung into action, consulting the school leadership and mobilizing support from kind-hearted individuals to bring the project to life.

The transformation is nothing short of remarkable.

The once-neglected classrooms have been completely overhauled, new roofs now shield the pupils from the harsh weather, PVC ceilings have been installed, along with nine doors and 24 windows, giving the classrooms a complete facelift.

The entire block, including the administrative office, was repainted, providing a clean and vibrant learning environment.

Today, children who once studied in flooded classrooms now learn in comfort and safety. What was once a forgotten space has been turned into a beacon of hope, thanks to one corps member’s compassion and commitment.

“I was deeply touched seeing the pupils studying in such terrible conditions, and l had to send my proposals and solicited help from so many good-spirited individuals outside the state.

“I am eternally grateful to them, and may God continue to replenish them.
“l feel fulfilled by contributing my quota to the development of Bayelsa State before passing out of my one-year mandatory NYSC service,” Prosper said.

In addition to the renovation project, Prosper carried out several other impactful programmes, including, free eye check-ups with medication, distribution of exercise books to 200 pupils, and sack and soilless farming training for women in the Swali community.

Speaking to journalists, the Community Development Chairman of Swali Town in Yenagoa Local government Area, Mr. James Dankaba, commended and applauded the selfless determination of the youth corps member who hails from Anambra State.
