Chess master Tunde Onakoya has responded to criticisms over his visit to President Bola Tinubu during the recent Salah holiday.
While he was among notable figures visiting the president in Lagos, the public reaction has been mixed, with some accusing him of aligning too closely with the government.
In response, Onakoya took to his X handle to clarify his stance.
He emphasised that visiting someone does not imply support for their actions or policies, reiterating his desire to remain apolitical.
The chess master acknowledged the diverse reactions to his visit, affirming that every opinion matters.
Highlighting his accomplishments, Onakoya mentioned his status as a Guinness World Record holder and his recent recognition in New York, asserting that connecting with the highest office in his country is not a wrongdoing.
He pointed out that he has previously declined offers of awards.
Onakoya also discussed his work through “Chess in Slums Africa,” explaining that his initiative is focused on education rather than politics.
