Catherine O’Hara, the acclaimed actress who won two Emmys and appeared in films like “Home Alone” and “Best in Show,” as well as experiencing a remarkable career resurgence in “Schitt’s Creek,” has passed away, as confirmed by her manager to Variety. She was 71 years old.
Her agency, CAA, reported that O’Hara died on Friday at her home in Los Angeles after a short illness.
O’Hara’s career in Hollywood spanned five decades, starting with the Canadian sketch comedy show “Second City Television,” which she co-created with Eugene Levy.

The role earned her her first Emmy and four additional nominations. She went on to appear in films such as “After Hours,” “Beetlejuice,” and the first two “Home Alone” films, where she portrayed the mother of Macaulay Culkin’s character, Kevin. O’Hara maintained a close friendship with Culkin and honored him during his Walk of Fame ceremony in 2023.
