As part of efforts to reduce the harmful effect of drug abuse among youths, Delta State Government has taken the sensitization campaign for behavioral change to the grassroots.
The Trumpet reports that at the campaign on Friday held at Ekpre Otobo Hall, Oleh in Isoko South Local Government Area of the state, Coordinator of the Delta State Campaign Against Drug Abuse, and Senior Special Assistant to the Governor on Social Works, Mrs. Pally Eghove called on youths to shun drug and substance abuse stating that it is harmful to their health and well-being.
She called on parents, religious bodies, community leaders, and other stakeholders to strive towards eliminating the scourge which had impacted negatively on youths across the state and country.
Mrs. Eghove noted that Governor Ifeanyi Okowa was desirous of eradicating drug abuse among youths in the state hence he approved the Campaign throughout the state.
“Drug and substance abuse has caused so much havoc in our society and a lot of people have died from drug addiction.

“So many destinies have been truncated because of the addiction to drug abuse and that is why our dear Governor, Senator Dr. Ifeanyi Okowa approved this campaign across the local government areas in the state.
“We encourage families and other stakeholders to speak up against hard drugs because collectively we can eradicate the scourge,” Eghove stated.
On his part, Isoko South Local Government Council Chairman, Hon. Victor Asasa commended the state government for the campaign, adding that the local government council will collaborate with the other stakeholders to ensure that drug abuse was stamped out of the council area.
Eminent resource persons including Justice Cleaver Daniels, Rev Mike Apena, Dr. Amos Obi, and Mr Samuel Campbell spoke at the ceremony.
The highlight of the event was the inauguration of the Drug Control Vanguards of the Local Government Area was witnessed by youths and women in the area.
