Accra boiled with tension today as angry Ghanaians staged a protest, chanting that Nigerians must leave their land and return home to fix the problems created by corruption and failed leadership in their country.

The demonstration erupted shortly after Ghana’s President, John Dramani Mahama, welcomed a fresh batch of deportees flown in from the United States under President Donald Trump’s tough immigration policies. The deportees included not only Ghanaians but also Nigerians and other West Africans.

According to a report by The Trumpet, the first group of 14 deportees arrived in Accra earlier today. Among them were several Nigerians and one Gambian, all of whom were received by Ghanaian authorities before arrangements were made for their onward journey back to their homelands.

Speaking on the matter, President Mahama revealed that the United States requested Ghana’s assistance in accepting third-party nationals expelled from America. He explained that the decision was made because citizens of West African nations do not require visas to enter Ghana.

“We accepted because West Africans don’t need a visa to come to Ghana anyway,” Mahama said.

The protesters, however, seized the moment to lash out at Nigerians, insisting that Ghana should no longer serve as a dumping ground for the region’s challenges. Their chants of “Return and fix your country” have sparked heated debate across both nations, raising fresh concerns over rising anti-Nigerian sentiment in parts of Africa.
