A Borno state High Court sitting in Maiduguri has convicted and sentenced two individuals, Babagana Bukar and Hauwa Chabri, for criminal misappropriation involving a total of N14.8 million.
The judgment was delivered by Justice B.T. Zannah on Monday, July 13, 2026, following their prosecution by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), Maiduguri Zonal Directorate, on separate one-count charges.
According to the EFCC, Bukar fraudulently diverted N8.8 million entrusted to him through Babakura Umar and Bello Adamu for the purchase of 100 bags of IRS flour and 50 bags of BUA sugar belonging to Bunu Gambo Liman, converting the funds to personal use.
Chabri was convicted for misappropriating N6 million belonging to Mohammed Samaila Yakubu, which had been entrusted to her for the supply of beef.

The offence, as gathered by our reporter, contravenes Section 296 of the Borno State Penal Code.Both defendants pleaded guilty to the charges.
In his judgment, Justice Zannah sentenced Bukar to one year imprisonment with an option of a N100,000 fine, after his counsel informed the court that he had fully restituted the victim.
Chabri was ordered to refund the N6 million to the petitioner or serve a two-year prison sentence.
