Beyoncé Knowles-Carter has made history once again, becoming the first Black woman to win the Best Country Album award at the 2025 Grammy Awards for her groundbreaking project, Cowboy Carter. The historic moment, which took place on Sunday night, further cements Beyoncé’s reign as the most-awarded artist in Grammy history, now boasting an unprecedented 34 Grammy wins.
Presented by pop icon Taylor Swift, the award marks a significant milestone for both Beyoncé and the country music genre, which has long been criticized for its lack of diversity. The win is especially symbolic, considering Beyoncé has previously spoken about not feeling “welcomed” in country music, making this victory a defining moment in her career.
Accepting the award in disbelief, Beyoncé took the stage and expressed her gratitude, saying, “Wow, I really was not expecting this. I wanna thank God—Oh my God!—that I’m able to still do what I love after so many years.” She went on to acknowledge the country music community for embracing her album and used the moment to send a powerful message about breaking boundaries in music. “I think sometimes genre is a code word to keep us in our place as artists, and I just want to encourage people to do what they’re passionate about and stay persistent.”

Released in March 2024, Cowboy Carter was a revolutionary project that amplified the voices of Black artists in country music, challenging the industry’s traditional landscape.
The album received 11 Grammy nominations, including Album of the Year and Best Country Album, while her hit single Texas Hold ’Em was nominated for Song of the Year, Record of the Year, and Best Country Song. Additionally, 16 Carriages and Ya Ya secured nominations for Best Country Solo Performance and Best Americana Performance.
With her 2025 Grammy wins, Beyoncé continues to redefine the music industry, proving that genre knows no boundaries and making history one groundbreaking achievement at a time.
