The Bauchi State Government, in collaboration with the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC), has inaugurated an 11-member tripartite technical committee to oversee the implementation of the national minimum wage in the state.
The committee, which includes representatives from the state government, NLC, and the Trade Union Congress (TUC), was launched on weekend following a State Executive Council meeting with labor union leaders.
At a press conference in Bauchi, the NLC Chairman for Bauchi State, Mr. Dauda Shuaibu, announced that the committee had agreed on a new minimum wage of N70,000 for civil servants.
He described the move as a significant step in improving the living standards of workers in the state.

Shuaibu also outlined the key legislative processes behind the national minimum wage, noting that the law has been passed by both the House of Representatives and the Senate, received presidential assent, and has been gazetted with circulars distributed to relevant ministries and departments nationwide.
The committee’s primary mandate, as made known by him, is to establish the payment framework for the new minimum wage, ensuring it is applied across various salary structures in the state.
“This timeline ensures that the implementation process is fast-tracked so that civil servants can benefit from the new wage without delay,” Shuaibu said.
