Tragedy struck the Ebonyi State Police Command on Wednesday morning as Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) Ogbon-Inu Taiwo Popoola collapsed and died during a management meeting at the office of the Commissioner of Police in Abakaliki.
The incident occurred around 10:30 a.m. while ACP Popoola, who was in charge of the State Intelligence Department (SID), reportedly experienced severe breathing difficulties and began gasping for air. He was immediately rushed to the Police Medical Centre at the headquarters, where health personnel administered urgent medical attention.
Despite their efforts, ACP Popoola was pronounced dead. Preliminary reports indicate that the senior officer succumbed to cardiac arrest secondary to hypertensive heart disease.

His remains have been deposited at the Alex Ekwueme Federal University Teaching Hospital (AE-FUTHA 1) mortuary in Abakaliki.
The Nigeria Police Force mourned the loss of a committed and professional officer who served with dedication until his passing.
Police Public Relations Officer Joshua Ukandu confirmed the unfortunate incident, describing it as a significant loss to the Ebonyi State Command and the force at large.
