Unknown assailants have killed a 35-year-old woman, Fatima Abubakar, and her six children on Saturday during a brutal attack on their residence at Dorayi Chiranchi Quarters of Kano metropolis.
The Kano State Police Command said the incident occurred at about 12:10pm on January 17, 2025, when hoodlums reportedly broke into the home of Haruna Bashir and attacked members of the household with dangerous weapons.
In a statement issued by the Police Public Relations Officer, CSP Abdullahi Kiyawa, the police said the victims sustained fatal injuries during the attack.
The statement said the Commissioner of Police, Ibrahim Adamu Bakori, upon receiving the distress call, immediately mobilised a police team to the scene.
The team was led by the Deputy Commissioner of Police in charge of Operations, Lawal Isah Mani.
“The victims were evacuated from the scene and rushed to Murtala Mohammed Specialist Hospital, Kano, where medical personnel confirmed them dead,” he stated.
Following the incident, the state vommissioner of police directed the assistant commissioner of police in charge of the Criminal Investigation Department, Wada Jarma, to take over the case and ensure a comprehensive investigation aimed at identifying and arresting those responsible for the killings.

The police command described the incident as gruesome and assured residents of Kano State that all necessary measures were being taken to bring the perpetrators to justice.
“The command is committed to ensuring that those behind this heinous act are tracked down and made to face the full wrath of the law,” the statement said.
The command also extended its condolences to the bereaved family, residents of Dorayi Chiranchi Quarters and the government and people of Kano State over the tragic loss.
The police urged the public to remain calm and cooperate with security agencies by providing useful information that could aid the ongoing investigation.
