Troops of the 6 Brigade of the Nigerian Army, operating under Sector 3 of ‘Operation Whirl Stroke’, have foiled a kidnapping and robbery attempt along the Wukari–Ikyior Road in Wukari Local Government Area of Taraba State.
The incident occurred on January 16, 2026, following a distress call that suspected criminals had blocked the road and were attacking civilians, according to a statement issued on Saturday in Jalingo.
The statement said troops stationed in Wukari swiftly responded to the alert and moved to the scene.
On sighting the soldiers, the suspects reportedly fled into the surrounding bush, abandoning their victims. However, the assailants escaped with their motorcycles.
Two victims, identified as Mr. Terso Kerso, and Mr. Udongu Terbo, both from Ikyior community in Wukari Local Government Area, were rescued during the operation.
The statement signed by the brigade’s spokesperson, Lt. Umar Muhammad, said the victims were found unconscious and were immediately evacuated to the Federal University Teaching Hospital, Wukari (FUTHW), where they received urgent medical attention.

“In response to the incident, troops have intensified patrols and surveillance in the area to prevent further criminal activities and to reassure residents and road users of a sustained security presence,” the statement added.
Commending the troops for their swift response and professionalism, the Commander of 6 Brigade, Brig.-Gen. Kingsley Uwa, said their timely intervention prevented the possible loss of lives.
He reaffirmed the army’s commitment to sustaining proactive security operations across its area of responsibility and urged members of the public to continue providing timely and credible information to security agencies to support efforts at maintaining peace and security in the state.
