The army has apprehended a senior officer, Lt. Col. Nwakama, after allegations of misconduct, extortion, and assault in Michika and Mubi Local Government Areas of Adamawa State were brought to light by former Senator Ishaku Abbo, who shared a petition on social media.
The officer is accused of exploiting his rank and military attire to intimidate civilians, confiscate fuel and fertilizers, threaten fuel vendors, and even shoot a young boy in Mubi.
He is also alleged to have damaged filling stations and removed CCTV cameras to conceal his actions.
Witnesses reported that Lt. Col. Nwakama frequently entered filling stations with armed vehicles, filled numerous gallons of fuel without payment, and later sold it for his own gain.

Farmers claimed he forcibly took fertilizers from them and resold them through intermediaries.
Following the public disclosure of these allegations and the presentation of evidence, the Chief of Defence Staff, General Christopher Musa and Chief of Army Staff, Lt. General Taoreed Lagbaja, promptly dispatched over 50 military police officers to Michika, resulting in the officer’s arrest.
Responding to the development, Sen. Abbo expressed gratitude to the army for its swift response and offered to make himself and witnesses available to provide testimony during the investigations.
Many Nigerians have commended the army for its quick action, emphasizing that the arrest enhances public confidence in its discipline, professionalism, and accountability.
