The army had announced a three-day mourning period starting from Wednesday, June 25, to Friday, June 27, 2025, in honour of 17 soldiers who lost their lives in Niger State.
The tragic incident occurred in the Kwana Dutse Local Government Area of the state, where the soldiers were engaged in an operations to flush out bandits terrorists the state.
In a statement released on the social media platform X on Thursday, the army expressed sorrow over the loss of the 17 soldiers, who made the ultimate sacrifice while serving the country.
The statement reads: “With deep respect and a heavy heart, the Nigerian Army declares a three-day mourning period to honour the courage and selflessness of these soldiers who valiantly paid the supreme price in defense of our nation.

“To mark this period of solemn remembrance, all formations and units of the army have been instructed to fly the army flag at half-mast.
“During these days of reflection, we extend our heartfelt condolences to the bereaved families and loved ones of our fallen soldiers.
“Their unwavering dedication, valour, and sacrifice in protecting our freedoms and way of life will be forever etched in our hearts and history.”
