The army has confirmed the arrest of a soldier, Lance Corporal Ahmed Aminu, following allegations that he was involved in the death of a phone repairer, Alkasim Ibrahim, in Mayo Belwa, Adamawa State, on July 4, 2025.

In a statement issued on Saturday, July 5, by Lieutenant Adebayo Adewumi, acting Assistant Director of Army Public Relations for the 23 Brigade in Yola, the army acknowledged the incident and announced that an investigation is underway to determine the facts surrounding the tragic occurrence.

Lt. Adewumi stressed that the army remains committed to professionalism, discipline, and upholding the rule of law, adding that any act of misconduct by any soldier is not taken lightly.

“The Nigerian Army assures the public that the outcome of the investigation will be made public to ensure transparency, accountability, and justice,” he stated.

The army also called for calm, urging the public to avoid speculation or any actions that could disrupt public order, while reiterating its commitment to integrity, accountability, and national service.

The death of Ibrahim has drawn public attention, with many calling for justice and a transparent probe into the matter.
