In a move to strengthen health journalism in West Africa, Nigeria Health Watch has officially opened applications for its highly coveted West African Solutions Journalism Fellowship 2025. The program is tailored to empower journalists with the tools to tell compelling, evidence-based stories that drive change across the region’s health sector.
The fellowship, which runs from July to October 2025, is a four-month hybrid program that combines virtual learning, in-person training, expert mentorship, and hands-on story development. Participants will collaborate with leading voices in public health and journalism to create impactful stories that spotlight innovative solutions to some of West Africa’s most pressing health challenges.
This opportunity is open to journalists residing in any West African country, with a strong command of written and spoken English. Nigeria Health Watch is particularly interested in professionals with at least three years of journalism experience, especially those with a flair for investigative reporting and storytelling. However, outstanding early-career journalists who show great promise are also encouraged to apply.
Applicants must be affiliated with a media outlet, whether print, radio, TV, or digital. Freelancers are welcome but must present a letter of support from a credible media platform that commits to publishing or broadcasting their fellowship stories.

The program promises to sharpen their journalistic skills while nurturing a community of storytellers passionate about health equity and development.
Applications close on May 30, 2025. If you’re a journalist seeking to elevate your craft, influence public discourse, and amplify solutions in healthcare reporting, this is your chance to make your mark.
