The Action Peoples Party (APP), says it has reserved its governorship ticket for Governor Siminalayi Fubara of Rivers State to seek a second term in 2027.
Chairman of the party in Rivers State, Sunny Wokekoro, made the offer on Saturday, November 23, 2024, at Rumuodomaya, headquarters of Obio/Akpor Local Government Council, where he performed the official presentation of the vehicles purchased for the councilors and other officials of the council by the council chairman.
Wokekoro, a one time Commissioner for Culture and Tourism in the state, stated that Gov. Fubara has proven his love for Rivers State and her people, as such the APP will be very delighted to have the governor fly the party’s ticket come 2027.
Following the altercation between Gov. Fubara and the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, the governor during the October local government election in the state, directed his supporters to seek election under the ticket of the APP.
At the end of the election, APP won all but one of the local government chairmanship seats in the 23 local government areas and over 98 percent of the councilorship positions.
Wokekoro boasted that the APP will also surprise Rivers people in the event of the bye-election into the 27 House of Assembly seats, if the courts grants the pleadings before them to declare the seats vacant.
The APP state chairman who described himself as a proud Ikwerre son, used the occasion to enjoin all Ikwerre people to stand for justice and truth by totally supporting Gov. Fubara.
He said that Ikwerre people have had their turn in government many times in the past, stressing that it is only right for them to support other ethnic groups to govern the state.
He described Gov. Fubara as the man of the moment who has come to change the narrative in political leadership in the state.
Wokekoro commended the Chairman of Obio/Akpor Local Government Council, Amb. Chijioke Ihunwo for his gesture in providing official vehicles for the 17 councilors, including the chief of staff and the secretary of the local government in less than two months in office.
He said the gesture speaks to the zeal with which the chairman has come to work, saying that by the time the chairman would have run through his tenure, Obio/Akpor council area will be transformed beyond imagination.
He advised the councilors to reciprocate the gesture by working in synergy with the chairman to continue to push Obio/Akpor ahead of other local councils in the state.

Earlier, the Chairman of the local government, Amb. Chijioke Ihunwo said the gesture was part of his contribution to ensure the success of the Gov. Fubara administration.
“What we are doing is because we want the government to succeed. And whatever will make the governor to succeed that is where I am. And I will remain 100 percent loyal to the governor of Rivers State”, the chairman insisted.
He revealed that he resisted a lot of pressure not to embark on the project, but enlisted the support of the principal officers of the council to make the project a reality.
” So I decided we must give out these vehicles to the councilors, the Chief of Staff and the Secretary of council. These are people who are working with us to ensure the council moves forward,” he stated.
Ihunwo pointed out that the council belongs to all Obio/Akpor people, stressing that everyone will get his/her due at the right time
” We have liberated Obio/Akpor Local Government and its not by my own power. It is the effort of everyone including the women. So I want to tell our people that under our leadership, Obio/Akpor is safe in our hands”, he added.
