The All Progressives Congress (APC) Delta State Chapter has issued a stern warning to Hon. Francis Ejiroghene Waive, a sitting member of the National Assembly, regarding what the party describes as gross anti-party activities. The APC State Chairman, Elder Omeni Sobotie, in a letter dated September 15, 2024, expressed deep displeasure over Hon. Waive’s endorsement of Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori, the Delta State Governor and a member of the opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), for a second term.
The APC’s leadership reacted to a viral video showing Hon. Waive canvassing support for the PDP governor, an act deemed by the party to be in direct conflict with its principles and objectives. In the video, which has garnered widespread attention both within and beyond Nigeria, Hon. Waive is seen actively endorsing Governor Oborevwori’s re-election bid, despite being a member of the APC.

The APC views this action as a violation of Article 21:2(1) & (ii) of the party’s constitution, which deals with party loyalty and discipline. In the letter signed by Elder Omeni Sobotie, Waive has been given seven days to appear before the party and explain why disciplinary measures should not be taken against him for his actions.
Sources said that the APC Delta State leadership is particularly concerned about the public embarrassment this situation has caused, as it threatens to bring the party’s image into disrepute. The letter emphasized the gravity of Waive’s actions, terming them a “gross display of anti-party behaviour” that has attracted public outrage.
Hon. Waive now faces the possibility of severe disciplinary action from the APC if he fails to provide a convincing defense for his support of an opposition candidate.
