The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Ikom Local Government Area of Cross River State has alleged that party congresses didn’t hold in the council area as the returning officer, Abubakar Efoli, and two supervisors allegedly absconded with congress materials.

A statement issued by Ntemoyuk Christopher Ntemoyuk, the Chief Press Secretary to the chairman of the local government, alleges that the returning officer and the two supervisors, Mr. Okoi Ojah and Bassey Asuquo ran away with materials meant for the local government congress to an unknown destination.

The statement, described the action as a deliberate attempt to undermine the process and create confusion among the party stakeholders.

“Contrary to any reports that the chapter congresses held in Ikom Local Government Area, the entire stakeholders of Ikom Local Government Area wish to state that the congresses did not hold.

“This is due to the unprofessional and suspicious behavior of the returning officer, Abubakar Efoli.

“The three men exhibited suspicious behavior immediately after the materials were handed over to them in the state secretariat in Calabar” the statement maintained.

It condemned the action of the three men to follow the laid-down procedures and guidelines of the party for the conduct of the chapter congresses as issued by the party’s leadership.

“Instead, they chose to act in a manner that was suspicious and unbecoming of their offices, contradicting all the security arrangements made for them by the executive chairman of council.

“All stakeholders in Ikom Local Government have, in unison, agreed that the chapter congresses were never held in Ikom.

“We therefore urge the party leadership at the state and national levels to take note of this development and take necessary actions to address the situation.”

“We also wish to assure the good people of Ikom Local Government Area that we will continue to work together to ensure that the party’s interest is protected at all times and that the will of the people will continue to prevail,” the statement said.

While addressing party faithfuls, the Executive Chairman of Ikom Local Government Area, Mrs. Mercy Nsor assured that the leadership of the party under the watch of Governor Bassey Otu will not allow the will of a few persons to play with the collective position of the entire Ikom people.
