A chieftain of the All Progressive Congress, (APC) in Rivers State and erstwhile National Publicity Secretary of the defunct New People’s Democratic Party (nPDP), Chief Eze Chukwuemeka Eze has taken the FCT Minister, Nyesom Wike and his group to the cleaners over their failed plot to use his influence in the Tinubu government to frustrate the planned Rivers local government election scheduled to hold this Saturday, October 5, 2024.
In a statement made available to the media Wednesday in Port Harcourt, Eze said “Wike and his band of bootlickers had lined up a litany of schemes, including using the Police and other security agencies to barricade the Rivers State Independent Electoral Commission (RSIEC) Office in Aba Road, Port Harcourt, to stop the election from holding as planned”.
Eze however pointed out that Wike’s plot failed like a pack of cards as Police disappointed him and his group of “political merchants” by opting to work with RSIEC for a hitch-free council polls on Saturday, in line with the verdict of a Federal High Court in Port Harcourt.
Recall that Justice I. P. C. Igwe had, in his judgement in Suit No: PHC/2696/CS/2024, filed by Action Peoples Party (APP) as Plaintiff/Applicant against Rivers State Independent Electoral Commission (RSIEC), Rivers State Government, and Governor of Rivers State as 1st to 3rd Respondents, ordered that RSIEC should proceed with the LGA election as planned.
The ruling according to the APC chieftain dealt a big blow on the efforts of the FCT Minister to scuttle the process.

“Wike had planned to use the controversy of the LGA poll to display to President Tinubu that he controls Rivers State, but events seem to have proved him wrong as Gov. Fubara appears to be tightening his grip of the oil rich state since he fell out with his predecessor” , Eze stated.
Commending INEC for providing RSIEC the 2023 Voter Register and other materials needed for the conduct of the election, Chief Eze urged security agencies to be professional in their conduct and ensure adequate security during and after the elections.
He described the actions of Wike and the “factional” PDP leadership in Rivers State not to participate in the election as a sign of cowardice and fear of defeat, which according to him has proven the irrelevance of Wike in the politics of Rivers State where his” rigging machine has been grounded”
Eze who commended the Rivers APC led by Chief Emeka BEKE for participating in the process of the election said it has proven to the entire world that Tony Okocha is nothing but an Imposter.
He called on Rivers people to unite and totally recover the political structure and governance of their State from the hand of a “draconian, stone-age slave master whose eight -year reign left a legacy of humongous multi-sectoral retrogression”.
The former n-PDP spokesman wished Rivers people a hitch-free election and urged voters to conduct themselves peacefully and abide by poll guidelines and other lawful directives from election officials.
He also commended RSIEC for providing a level playing ground for all participating political parties, stressing that such a positive attitude promotes democracy.
