Dreams of women taking their rightful position in Adamawa state politics have no doubt begun to yield desired results, as another female yesterday emerged as a running mate.

Rebecca Audu emerged as the running mate to the governorship candidate of the People’s Redemption Party (PRP), Lt. Commodore Ibrahim Baba-Inna (rtd) for the state.

Her emergence is coming barely a month after the incumbent governor, Ahmadu Umar Fintiri, unveiled the Vice Chancellor of Adamawa State University, Mubi, Professor Kaletapwa Farauta, as his running mate.

Both Farauta and Rebecca are the first females in the northeast geopolitical zone that had been selected as running mates since the advent of democracy in the country.

The party’s guber candidate said Rebecca was chosen after extensive consultations both within and outside the state, adding that, “she was chosen for the job because of her track record in both the civil service and politics.”

The gathering which brought the teeming supporters of the party together, according to Baba-Inna, was not only to unveil his deputy but also to organise a retreat for candidates of the party to strategize on how to canvassed for votes from eligible voters ahead of the forthcoming general elections.

Overwhelmed by her emergency, Rebecca passionately beckoned on party stalwarts to work tirelessly round the clock to ensure the party’s victory in the state come to the next political dispensation.

Like Farauta, who The Trumpet observed has begun to canvassed votes for the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the state, Rebecca has also vowed to tread extra legitimate paths to reach out to eligible voters spread across the state.

Believing that her political party, has all the needed structures to form the next government in the state, she urged the people of the state especially women to put aside their differences by rallying around the PRP to produce the next governor of the state.

Some women who spoke with The Trumpet expressed happiness at the way and manner the male politicians in the state have begun to give women in Adamawa more recognition.

Confiding on our state correspondent, the majority of the women reiterated their readiness to throw their weights in support of political parties that have females as their running mates.
