A delegation from the Nigerian Army Headquarters, led by Brigadier General Moses Ikobah, has expressed concern over the declining number of young people from Eket Local Government Area of Akwa Ibom State enlisting in the military.
During a visit to the Chairman of Eket Local Government Area, Tommey Akaninyene, on Tuesday, Ikobah described the trend as troubling, noting the absence of Eket indigenes among serving personnel.
He stressed that strong leadership, especially within the military, should inspire others from the same community to follow similar career paths.
According to him, the lack of representation from Eket has become noticeable during the gathering of soldiers.
Ikobah called on eligible youths in the area to take advantage of the ongoing recruitment exercise, emphasizing the need for Akwa Ibom State to meet its enlistment quota.

In response, the council Chairman, Tommey Akaninyene, encouraged young people in Eket to seize the opportunity and enlist.
He commended the army for its awareness efforts and assured the delegation of the local government’s full support in boosting participation.
Akaninyene also expressed optimism that more youths from the area would respond positively to the recruitment drive, pledging the council’s commitment to providing any necessary assistance.
