The air component of ‘Operation Fansan Yamma’ has successfully conducted airstrikes in the Alawa Forest, located in Shiroro Local Government Area of Niger State, resulting in the neutralisation of numerous bandits and the dismantling of their logistics base.
This was disclosed by the Director of Public Relations and Information of the Air Force, Air Vice Marshal Olusola Akinboyewa.
He said the operation was executed based on reliable intelligence and confirmatory aerial surveillance that revealed the movement of the armed terrorists into the area.
“These criminals were linked to widespread violence, including two improvised explosive device attacks on December 19, 2024, in Bassa, Shiroro Local Government Area, which sadly claimed some innocent lives.
“In response, the air force launched a three-day sustained air operation, codenamed ‘Konan Daji’, to degrade the terrorists’ capabilities and render the forest uninhabitable for them.
“To this end, the air component dispatched a formation of fighter aircrafts to execute air interdiction missions in the area.
Upon arrival, the jets swiftly engaged the identified targets with precision strikes,” the air force spokesman stated.

He added that numerous armed fighters were neutralized during the airstrikes and that their logistics base was destroyed, as indicated by several secondary explosions.
He emphasized that the air force in close coordination with ground forces, is committed to maintaining operational dominance in the region.
“Efforts are ongoing to eradicate all criminal elements from Alawa Forest and its surrounding areas, aiming to achieve lasting peace and security for communities in Niger and beyond.
“This successful operation represents a significant setback for the bandits and marks a major achievement for the air force in their fight against terrorism and insecurity in the area,” Air Vice Marshal Akinboyewa said.
