The highly anticipated African Debate 2025 is set to take place on July 2nd in London, United Kingdom, with a bold theme that promises to reshape Africa’s economic trajectory: “Harnessing Natural Capital for Growth.” The event aims to position the continent at the heart of global value chains by unlocking the immense potential of its natural resources through innovation, policy reform, and strategic partnerships.

This year’s edition will bring together an influential mix of policymakers, investors, and industry leaders to discuss how Africa can transform its vast natural capital from untapped assets into engines of industrial growth, sustainable manufacturing, and regional supply chain development. Key areas of focus include infrastructure investment, the role of policy in facilitating industrialization, and the pursuit of long-term, climate-positive economic strategies.

President William Samoei Ruto of Kenya is slated to deliver the keynote address, setting the tone for a high-level conversation on Africa’s evolving role in the global economy. Introductory remarks will be given by the President and Chief Executive Officer of the African Industrial Finance Corporation, who will provide insights into financing industrial transformation across the continent.

The debate will delve into what it will take for Africa to become a global hub for sustainable production. Speakers are expected to analyze the critical need for domestic investment, stronger institutions, regional integration, and meaningful international partnerships. These elements are seen as pivotal in scaling up value addition, deepening Africa’s industrial base, and fostering inclusive, climate-resilient growth.

Experts will also explore a paradigm shift in the perception of natural capital, not just as a static stock of raw resources, but as a dynamic driver of economic transformation. This rethinking could redefine Africa’s position in global trade and help transition the continent from being a supplier of commodities to a key player in value-added production.

At the heart of the African Debate 2025 is the vision of actualizing the goals of the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA). Discussions will emphasize how governments, development financiers, and private sector stakeholders can unlock value in strategic sectors such as agro-processing, pharmaceuticals, logistics, and renewable energy.

The African Debate promises not just dialogue but a roadmap for shifting Africa’s economies from trade corridors to value corridors, ensuring the continent doesn’t just participate in the global economy, but leads with purpose, innovation, and resilience.
