The African Cup of Nations finally kicked off today with the teams in group A, comprising of the host nation Cameroon, Burkina Faso, Ethiopia and Cape Verde.
Cameroon took on Burkina Faso while Ethiopia locked horns with Cape Verde in the thriller that saw one of the Ethiopian players sent off.

The match between Cameroon and Burkina Faso ended in a 2-1 win for the host nation at the
Stade Omnisport Paul Biya, Olembé.

The host nation came from behind to slot in two spot-kicks due to fouls committed on rough tackles by Issa Kaboré and Issoufou Dayo on different times in the six yards box.
The Cameroonian striker, Vincent Aboubakar, converted both spot-kicks to cancel Gustavo Sangaré’s goal to take the lead and held on it to finally win the game.

Also, the match between Ethiopia and Cape Verde which took place at the
Stade Omnisport Paul Biya, Olembé
ended in a 0-1 scoreline with Júlio Tavares of Cape Verde slotting in the only goal of the match.
In the 12th minutes of play, Yared Bayeh Belay, a central defender of the Ethiopian national team, was sent off.
