The African Democratic Congress (ADC) chieftain, Chief Eze Chukwuemeka Eze, has described Justice Peter Lifu as an anti-democratic judicial officer, accusing him of bias and judicial misconduct in relation to a suit seeking the deregistration of political parties ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Key Highlights:
- ADC chieftain accuses Justice Peter Lifu of bias in party deregistration case
- Allegations of judicial misconduct and disregard for Appeal Court order
- Claim of political interference in 2027 election-related matters
- Call for National Judicial Council (NJC) investigation
- Federal Government officials also accused of complicity
Eze, in a statement issued on Friday, alleged that Justice Peter Lifu was being used by political interests to weaken opposition parties, claiming the judge acted contrary to an Appeal Court directive halting proceedings on the case.
He argued that the alleged conduct reflected a broader pattern of political interference in the judiciary, warning that such actions could undermine public confidence in the courts ahead of the 2027 elections.
According to him, the judge’s actions amounted to disregard for judicial hierarchy, insisting that the Court of Appeal had already ordered a suspension of proceedings in the matter involving the deregistration of political parties.

Eze further alleged that certain political actors were attempting to influence judicial decisions to favour the ruling party, describing the situation as a threat to democratic governance and opposition politics in Nigeria.
He also referenced past controversies involving the judiciary, arguing that pressure from political actors has continued to affect judicial independence.
The ADC chieftain commended the Court of Appeal and the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) for challenging what he described as an improper judgment, while urging stronger institutional resistance to political interference.
Eze called on the National Judicial Council (NJC) to investigate Justice Peter Lifu over alleged judicial misconduct, insisting that the integrity of the judiciary must be protected.
He also accused senior officials in the executive arm of government of being indirectly involved in efforts to weaken opposition parties, claims that have not been independently verified.
Despite the allegations, Eze maintained that opposition parties remain confident ahead of the 2027 general elections, insisting that voters would ultimately decide the outcome at the polls.
