The Adamawa State Executive Council has approved the award of a N2.59 billion contract for the construction of an administrative block at the Adamawa State College of Technology, Innovation and Entrepreneurship Studies (ADCOTIES), Gulak.
The contract, valued at N2,592,735,171.38, was approved during the 17th meeting of the State Executive Council, chaired by the Deputy Governor, Prof. Kaletapwa Farauta, at the Government House, Yola.
Commissioner for Information and Strategy, Leader Leneke, disclosed the decision shortly after the meeting.
Explaining the rationale for the approval, the Commissioner for Education and Human Capital Development, Garba Pella, said the project became necessary following the upgrade of Mega Science Secondary School, Gulak, to a college of technology, innovation and entrepreneurship studies.
Pella said the upgrade created the need for additional facilities, particularly offices for the rector and management staff, to support the effective day-to-day administration of the institution.
According to him, the institution has already commenced operations under a temporary arrangement, while the construction of the administrative block will provide permanent facilities for its management.
The council also approved the award of a contract for the procurement of office furniture for the newly constructed Adamawa State Independent Electoral Commission (ADSIEC) headquarters.

Commissioner for Housing and Urban Development, Abdullahi Prambe, explained that the commission’s new office complex had recently been completed and handed over to the state government by the contractor.
He said the approval for the procurement of furniture would enable the commission to equip the new facility and commence operations in a more suitable environment.
The Executive Council also urged residents across the state to remain vigilant against possible flooding, following the recent frequency of rainfall.
The council advised residents to take necessary precautions to protect lives and property from the effects of flooding.
