Professor Daniel Zanyu Egah, the Acting Chief Medical Director (CMD) of the Federal University Teaching Hospital in Wukari, Taraba State, has commended the federal government for the opportunity to lead the newly established institution.
In a recent conversation with media practitioners, Professor Egah, a professor of Clinical Microbiology, who called for additional support to ensure its success, emphasized the need for federal assistance to help the hospital reach its full potential.
Egah who also praised the Taraba State government, under the leadership of Governor Agbu Kefas for its substantial financial support, noted that federal funding is crucial for the hospital’s long-term sustainability.
“The state government, led by Governor Agbu Kefas, has been immensely supportive,” Egah said.
The governor, as made known by him, has provided N50 million, a new Hilux vehicle, and other resources to the teaching hospital.
Additionally, the state government, as announced by him, covers the monthly salaries of the 250 staff members who transitioned from Wukari General Hospital to the new teaching hospital.
Despite the significant support from the state, Professor Egah stressed the importance of federal backing, pointing out that a federal takeoff grant would enable the hospital to operate effectively and continue providing quality healthcare services to residents of Taraba State and beyond.
Egah also discussed the hospital’s growing role in the region, mentioning that there have been 400 deliveries recorded between January and May 2024, indicating the hospital’s increasing significance in Taraba’s healthcare landscape.

Local stakeholders and prominent community members have echoed this sentiment, urging the federal government to support the hospital’s growth and urging the Minister of Health to consider appointing Professor Egah as the permanent CMD, given his leadership and impact on the hospital’s development.
