Abuja Court dismisses Bash Ali's N500bn lawsuit against FG

An Abuja court has dismissed Bash Ali’s N500 billion lawsuit against a former sports minister, the Federal Ministry of Youth and Sports Development, and the minister of justice.

Justice Peter Kekemeke of the Abuja High Court, ruled on Thursday that Ali’s case was “statute barred,” meaning it was no longer valid due to the expiration of the time limit for filing the suit.

In his ruling on the defendants’ preliminary objection, Kekemeke stated that there was no evidence indicating that the first defendant had signed a contract with the boxer.

He noted that the lawsuit was filed on October 10, 2021, which was three months before the claimant submitted a counter affidavit.

The judge explained that the legal basis for the case, which arose on May 20, 2020, had exceeded the allowable time frame.

Justice Kekemeke concluded that the preliminary objection was valid, resulting in the case being struck out.

In his lawsuit, Ali has sought a court order declaring the withdrawal of support he received as illegal.

He also requested the court to compel the first defendant to retract defamatory statements made against him and to resume their support.

Additionally, he demanded N500 billion for lost income, among other claims.
