The Lagos State Police Command has launched a full-scale investigation into a viral video that shows students of Excel College, Ejigbo, allegedly smoking and drinking alcohol inside the school’s boys’ hostel. The footage, which only surfaced recently despite reportedly being recorded in April, has triggered widespread outrage from parents, educators, and the public over the shocking behavior of the teenagers.

Police spokesperson SP Abimbola Adebisi confirmed on Thursday that the case has been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) following initial inquiries by the Ejigbo Police Division. Commissioner of Police Olohundare Jimoh directed the escalation, underscoring the seriousness of the incident and the need for a thorough probe.

During questioning, the school principal, who also owns Excel College, claimed that the students in the viral video had since graduated and were no longer enrolled at the institution. Despite this defense, the school management pledged full cooperation with investigators as pressure mounts for accountability.

Adebisi assured the public that law enforcement is working closely with school officials and other stakeholders to uncover the truth and prevent a repeat of such behavior in educational settings. She stressed that the investigation will be transparent and its findings made public once concluded.

The spokesperson also issued a stern call to action for parents, guardians, and school authorities across Lagos, urging them to take greater responsibility in guiding children and instilling moral discipline. According to her, parental involvement is crucial in steering students away from vices that could not only damage their futures but also attract public condemnation and disrupt peace within schools and society.

She reaffirmed the Lagos State Police Command’s commitment to maintaining order, safety, and discipline in schools, warning that authorities will not tolerate conduct capable of undermining the integrity of the state’s educational system.

The viral video continues to spark heated debates online, with many Nigerians demanding tougher supervision in schools and stronger parental engagement as the investigation unfolds.
