The Commissioner for Information in Kogi State, Mr. Kingsley Fanwo, has declared that the agricultural policies introduced by Governor Ahmed Ododo are helping to lower food prices in the state.
Fanwo, who said this in a statement on Wednesday in Lokoja, explained that the increase in food production, along with government efforts to prevent hoarding, has made food more available and affordable for families.
He highlighted that this year alone, the state has planted over one million cashew and palm seedlings, which he believes would boost the state’s economy by over ₦100 billion in the next three years.
Fanwo emphasized that the drop in food prices is not by chance but as a result of the government’s support for farmers through various programs, including the distribution of better seeds and improving rural roads.
He assured that the state is also actively preventing middlemen from creating fake shortages.
“We’re committed to protecting the people of Kogi from those who would hoard food for profit,” he said.

“We will keep monitoring markets to ensure food is both available and affordable, especially since this season has seen a large production of staple crops, which makes hoarding less appealing.”
Fanwo confirmed that Gov. Ododo is dedicated to making Kogi State a major food supplier in Nigeria, stating that agriculture will continue to support food security, create jobs, and contribute to economic growth in the state.
He also mentioned that a program called ‘Produce for Lagos’, run by the Lagos State government, has chosen to partner with Kogi State for food supplies, supported by a ₦500 billion agribusiness fund.
