Delta State Commissioner for Works (Highways and Urban Roads), Reuben Izeze, has assured residents of Asaba and its environs that the ongoing stormwater control project will provide lasting solutions to perennial flooding in the capital city.

Izeze gave the assurance on Tuesday during an inspection of the multi-billion-naira flood control measures on Summit Road through Nwelih Street, St. Patrick’s College, West-End Mixed Secondary School, and Uche Medua Igeh, linking Amilimocha Stream in Oshimili South Local Government Area.

The commissioner commended Governor Sheriff Oborevwori for keeping faith with his administration’s promise of meaningful development, realistic reforms, peace, and security, stressing that the project was a continuation of the Asaba stormwater drain master plan.

“Firstly, let me commend the audacity and courage of His Excellency in keeping the covenant he made with Deltans. This project is part of that promise.

“Having inspected the work from chainage 0 to 650, I can confidently say the quality of work is not in doubt.

“The consulting firm has demonstrated capacity and experience to supervise this very important project,” Izeze said.

According to him, the project spans a total of 6,519 metres of drains, with the ongoing stretch covering about one kilometre.

He expressed optimism that the project would be completed by December for inauguration by the governor.

“When this one-kilometre section is completed, it will tackle flooding around the DBS area, Anwai Road, and adjoining streets.

“By the time the entire stretch is delivered, it will conclude the original storm water master plan for Asaba, ensuring that flooding becomes a thing of the past,” the commissioner stated.

Izeze further said the project was proof that Gov. Oborevwori is “a promise keeper and a governor for all Deltans,” adding that both residents and visitors would soon witness the transformation of Asaba into a flood-free city.
